2023 - Atmosphere and Moods

When I first arrived in Yellowknife, I found myself constantly looking upward. I was captivated by the restless, shifting light of the subarctic skies and the way the heavy snowfall sculpted the trees into silent, crystalline figures. This debut collection is an exploration of those first visceral impressions of the North—a study of light, weight, and stillness.

In an attempt to capture the profound depth of the northern night, I experimented with Musou Black—the world’s darkest acrylic paint. While its ability to absorb light created a striking void on the canvas, working with such a specialized pigment forced me to trade spontaneity for strategy, requiring a fully realized vision before the brush ever touched the canvas.
