2024 - Tales of Smoke and Trees

In August 2023, the creative process behind my Atmosphere and Moods collection was abruptly interrupted. Along with the rest of Yellowknife, I was evacuated to Alberta as wildfires threatened our community. This period of displacement became a shared chapter of uncertainty for us all, and the tension of that summer seeped into my brushstrokes. Several painting were a direct result and way for me to process the experience. This tension eventually gave way to the restorative silence of winter: the weight of snow on the boreal forest and the quiet persistence of the ptarmigan. These pieces document that journey from the smoke of August to the sanctuary of the crisp winter air.
